I was fortunate enough to be able to show the following paintings in New York at the Middle Collegiate Church’s 7th and 2nd Gallery, on 50 E. 7th Street in New York City, and at Abigail Hitchcock’s restaurant, CAMAJE (now Abigail’s Kitchen), on 85 MacDougal Street, back then.

Los Angeles, 1980 (2006). I used to love walking to Bill’s to buy popsicles, groceries for my mom, and Pall Malls for my father.

Church Fan (2006). My mom made sure we attended church every Sunday. We went to First African Methodist Episcopal Church, off Adams, with Reverend Cecil “Chip” Murray, R.I.P.

Wishbone (Big Amiri) (2006). This is a spiritual/emotional portrait of my father Jai (he called himself “Big Amiri”). He ran a dry cleaning business for a while.

Sandy, or, Dollar Out of 15 Cents (2006). This is a spiritual/emotional portrait of my mother, with her two children, me and my little brother. She has lived a life of far too much sacrifice for us.

Houston 1986 (2006). Me and my little brother Ishmael exploring Houston's urban rurality.

Gettin’ Krunk Wit’ Willie Lump Lump (2006). A spiritual/emotional portrait of my little brother.
